Ryan McGinley. Monday Posting. 8.31.

Ryan McGinley is an artist whose work I really enjoy. His use of the human form and color is absolutely incredible. The way he is able to shape human bodies creates the most fascinating compositions. McGinley makes his subjects look as if they are in impossible situations, like on the moon. He actually poses people in craters and caves. His series of nude subjects in caves is completely breathtaking. Seeing McGinley's work shows me that so much is still possible with straight photography and studio lighting. In his series 'Moonmilk,' the cave series, McGinley uses such a creative approach to nude photography that the human form is seldom in the foreground. It usually appears as dwarfed by massive rock formations that are lit from behind, above and within with different colored lights and gels.
